Nothing better than being able to relax and be pampered. It calms your mind and body, fights stress and also cleanses your skin! But not everyone can go to a fancy spa, especially not lately!
Skin care is personal care: something everyone needs. Even with as little as one night a week, giving yourself that extra attention can work wonders. A night of pampering is certainly better than nothing at all!
Ready to dive into your most heavenly DIY spa experience ever? We outline everything you’ll need for skin, hair and body – your very own home spa awaits!
Get ready for the day at the spa
Take your daily hydration a step further by making your own spa water. One of our favorite recipes involves adding freshly sliced and peeled cucumber with crushed mint leaves to a pitcher of water. Store it in the fridge for a chilled glass of spa-wesome whenever you need it.
Configure your space
To set the mood for your spa, create a relaxing atmosphere. Dim the lights and use clean-burning soy or beeswax candles for mood lighting. Vibrate your diffuser with aromatherapeutic essential oils – eucalyptus and lavender are spa favourites!
Mood Music – or Meditation
Before you start your spa treatments, create a spa playlist! Sound can have a huge impact on your surroundings, and ambient music can transport you to a plane of deep calm and relaxation.
If you’ve struggled with meditation in the past, a home spa is the perfect place to practice! Try a guided meditation: a recording of an individual guiding you through mindfulness, breathing, and relaxation practices.
Bring your most luxurious towels, slippers and bathrobes so you have everything you need for the perfect pampering session. Need a to-do list for a spa getaway? Our Self Care collection should give you the inspiration you need for your home spa!
DIY facial treatment
To help you get the most out of your facial session, we’re going to focus on products that will soothe and hydrate your skin for the long week ahead.
Step 1: Clean
Start with your favorite cleanser – we love Blood Orange Cleansing Balm for a deep, decadent cleanse. For light exfoliation, try Lavender Aromatherapy Oat Milk Soothing Cleanser.
Take the time to massage the cleanser into the skin in small circular motions, stimulating healthy circulation and blood flow. Rinse thoroughly with hands, then gently pat skin with a clean towel until semi-dry.
PRO TIP: Don’t forget the neck and décolleté, these delicate areas also need special treatment!
Step 2: Toner
While skin is still damp, apply Restorative Sea Culture Hydrating Toner. You can pat it on the skin with clean hands or use a cotton ball to remove any remaining debris.
This toner contains algae and sea kelp. These humectants help remineralize and temporarily firm skin by drawing out impurities, while amino acids promote skin elasticity and conditioning. Since the seaweed used in this product comes from unpolluted seaweed farms, it contains ultra-pure trace minerals from the sea.
Step 3: Serum
Dispense 2 pumps of Vitamin C Serum into your hands and press into skin – be careful not to tug or tug! This lightweight serum feels like a crunchy drink to the skin, thanks to hydrating aloe gel and plant cellulose. This refreshing serum helps plump the skin, while vitamin C and green apple revive the complexion for a more youthful glow.
Step 4: Hydrate
For the ultimate spa finish, complete your facial treatment with the Extra Rich Repairing Marine Culture Cream. Made with clean, nutritious ingredients (unlike other expensive “sea” creams we know of), this formula deeply hydrates skin without leaving a greasy residue. Warm the cream between palms before pressing firmly onto the skin of your face and neck.
Treatment Mask
Some spa facials are meant to slough off dead skin cells and oil, while nourishing the new skin underneath. These treatments may seem like they require a little more elbow grease – but you can actually do a rejuvenating mini-facial at home!
Powder masks are fantastic for recreating the spa experience at home. Through the use of gentle exfoliants like rice powder or colloidal oatmeal, powder masks cleanse the skin by encouraging dead skin cells to slough off.
Our Nourishing Matcha Oat Milk Mask uses both rice and colloidal oatmeal to create gentle exfoliation. Meanwhile, matcha extract delivers a dose of antioxidants and caffeine, to lessen redness and neutralize signs of sun damage. A blend of rolled oats, calendula and coconut milk works to soothe and soften the skin for truly complete skin care.
To use a powder mask in your home spa, simply mix about 1 tablespoon of powder with 1 teaspoon of warm water. Gently massage onto face and neck, avoiding eyes. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.
face massage
Getting a relaxing facial massage can have multiple benefits. The first is that it stimulates blood circulation in the skin, for a brighter complexion. Second, it can help move and drain lymphatic fluids to reduce swelling. Check out our step-by-step facial massage below!
Step 1
Warm a nourishing face oil between clean, dry hands.
2nd step
Using your first two fingers of both hands, start at the sides of your nose. Continue to press and release while moving your hands up your cheekbones.
Step 3
Using the same motion, start at your inner eyebrow and move up your brow bone until you reach your temple. Hold the temple for a few seconds, then make small circles to release the tension. You can also perform the same pressing movement under the cheekbone.
Step 4
When you get to the hinges of the jaw, move the fingertips in circles to release jaw tension.
bath soap
Soaking baths can provide a variety of benefits. Epsom and sea salts can remove toxins and impurities from the skin and can help remineralize and rehydrate the skin.
The essential oils in these salts are designed for an aromatherapeutic spa experience. Our therapeutic lavender bath will calm the body and mind, while helping to relieve tension and stress.
Our eucalyptus marine therapy bath is an invigorating blend of peppermint and eucalyptus. Soaking in a hot, humid thermal bath with these essential oils will help cleanse the sinuses, stimulate circulation, and promote a healthy immune system.
If you are looking for a transformative bath with therapeutic properties, take a look at the seaweed detox bath. This detoxifying blend is made with ginger root, seaweed and dandelion to eliminate toxins, heavy metals and stimulate lymphatic drainage. Eucalyptus, tea tree and rosemary infusions promote healthy circulation and deep relaxation.
Body Scrub
Exfoliating your body is beneficial for several reasons. It helps increase skin cell turnover, exposing fresh, youthful skin underneath. It can also even out your skin tone by reducing the bumps and scales that dull your complexion.
Be sure to use this scrub on particularly dry areas like elbows, knees, and feet. Our moisturizing scrubs are amazing at making feet softer and smoother – no pumice stone needed! Be sure to apply a generous amount to feet and other dry areas, using light circular motions to remove rough skin.
Our body scrub collection is made with silky smooth oils and detoxifying sea salt for a spa-like experience. Try our Lavender Body Scrub for a hint of aromatherapy combined with a skin-smoothing exfoliation. Coconut Body Scrub invokes warm tropical breezes, Honey Almond Body Scrub tickles your sweet tooth and Blood Orange Body Scrub illuminates and energizes.
Applying a body cream after your hot tub or body scrub will seal in essential moisture for soft, ultra-supple skin. A nourishing body cream is a little easier to spread for all-over hydration, but rich body whipped butters are great for targeting dryness-prone areas.
Now that you’re armed with all the knowledge you need to create your own spa day at home, go ahead and treat yourself!
