IFBB Pro Sergio Oliva Jr was preparing to return to the stage in 2023, but an unfortunate circumstance changed all that instantly. Through no direct fault on his part, Oliva was involved in a traffic accident that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist. Even if Oliva had not been charged with a crime, the legal procedures in this part of the world are different from those in the United States. He therefore does not know what awaits him until all the appropriate measures have been taken.
Oliva discussed the delays on a recent episode of The Menace podcast with Dennis James, Milos Sarcev and Chris Cormier.
“I can’t do anything until the file is finalized and sent to the insurance. So now I’m just waiting for the auto insurance people to take care of the matter,” he told James. “It’s just a normal accident situation, but because of Ramadan no one is working.”
Oliva was hoping to compete in the Arnold Classic Brazil on April 15, but he thinks that might not happen. Fans haven’t seen him on stage since the 2022 Arnold Classic USA, where he placed sixth. He chose to go to Dubai later after this show so he could experience life in another part of the world and reconnect with his sport.
“He’s got the best gym I’ve trained in,” the former San Diego resident said. Oliva told the other hosts that losing to a competitor 100 pounds lighter than him (Shaun Clarida at Legion Sports Fest Pro 2021) served as the wake-up call he needed to make a change.
“I weighed the most at that show, and I got beat again by the guy from Milos (Regan Grimes), and that was probably the worst condition I’ve had in a long time, so I just wanted to do something like a fresh start.”
