The best health an NFL player will have in a season is the first day of training camp. Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence strongly believes in that assessment. Now, in his ninth season, his recovery work begins as soon as he gets out of bed.
“The body is beaten,” Lawrence said bluntly. “Being able to have those little things that you can have to calm the [pain] sensations is golden. Some games are harder than others, but you still want to stick to that recovery routine. I think recovery is the most important thing.
Lawrence has battled injuries to both feet and his right knee so far for the Cowboys 10-4. He credits his partnership with Hyperice for helping him take care of his body away from the training facility. In 14 appearances, the veteran defensive end is fifth on the team in tackles (55), third in sacks (6) and tied for second in forced fumbles (2). Dallas is currently the fifth overall defense and second against the pass in the league. The veteran defensive lineman spoke with Muscle and Fitness about his recovery routine and shared some of the things that help keep his body ready to play on game day. Lawrence also shared the channel that reminds him of his family as well as the track that helps lift his spirits.
DeMarcus Lawrence is still ready for recovery
On Monday, I do cryo, stretching and yoga. Tuesday is my day off, so I’m spending time with my kids, going to hang out with my wife, or going to a charity event. On Wednesday, I’ll get back to it with the team. In the afternoon, I will have time to take my sons to baseball or basketball practice. Then I will have a Bible study at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, after finishing with the team around 5:30 p.m., I will do the D-Line dinner at 7:30 p.m. Friday, after finishing with the team at 1:30 p.m., I will pick up my children and spend time with them, then my wife and I will have dinner at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, I go back to it to prepare for Sunday.
I have a lot of important people in my life who mean a lot to me, so I have to make sure I have time for them.
In addition, Friday and Saturday, I return to work with my trainer, I do the stretches and I have a soft tissue massage. You deal with a lot of injuries, but it’s about keeping those little muscles strong, so you can keep your body as strong as possible.
I worked with this [yoga] coach since mid-season last year and she’s been amazing. She bent me all over like a pretzel. It was amazing. Even with minor soft tissue injuries, I’m still able to pull through with my game plan week after week. Being able to have someone on the team who can help you with those ailments and who knows all those little moves you can actually make to help strengthen those areas is very good for your career.

I will keep it real. I have a non-alcoholic beer. I think having carbs after putting your body through that kind of stress is good for you. It also builds muscle and you can’t beat it alcohol-free. I’m traveling in a Sprinter van and if I have the JetBoots with me, I’ll put my legs up and have the Venom Back with me. The first thing I do Monday morning is go straight into the cryo. After that, I will directly do yoga.
Hyperice – Normatec Go & Venom Back
These items aren’t just great to use to maintain my performance during my work hours. But the fact that they can be used on the go means I can use them even when doing my dad duties. The more I can do to keep my body straight, the better. The partnership has been wonderful for me, mostly because it’s something I can invest in and something I use every day. I feel like if you put your money into it, you actually believe in the company and the products it sells. I love the Venom Back. I use it every morning when I get out of bed to start my day. It’s my favorite product.

DrinkSip
A way to celebrate with a tasty beer without the repercussions of alcohol. I am not a heavy alcoholic. I’m a social drinker but at the end of the night I still wonder, “Man, why the hell did I do this to my body?” The space is so new that it basically looks like crypto. Many people are like me. They’re social drinkers, but they don’t want to drink, or they’re going through sobriety. To be able to deliver a product where people can be in a social space and enjoy a non-alcoholic drink and what that entails is huge for today’s society. I love it.
