Exfoliation helps renew your skin cells. So when you shed, new cells appear on the outer layer of your skin. This makes your skin look younger, gives it more surface, and evens out your skin tone. However, if you’ve peeled excessively or too often, you’ll damage the new cells on the skin’s surface before they’ve even become comfortable.

The skin produces oils that keep it healthy and hydrated. Too much exfoliation can deprive our face of what it needs to maintain a shiny composition. Many unacceptable types of exfoliation can be overpowering or disturbing for your skin type. You may be itching for cleaner, softer skin, but making legit progress is essential, and it takes a bit of perseverance.

What happens when you exfoliate excessively?

Just like us, I’m sure there are many people who don’t know how over-exfoliation can seriously damage the skin. If you like exfoliating your skin a little too much, keep reading to find out what excessive exfoliation can do to your skin.

Makes your skin glow

The exfoliation acts on the surface of the skin. It smoothes your skin surface and gives you glowing skin. However, over-exfoliation adds an unfortunate shine and facial skin, especially the T-zone, looks more sparkling than plastic. This is definitely not a decent sign because excessively shiny skin shows that the top layer of skin has been impacted due to over-exfoliation.

Can lead to facial swelling

Over exfoliation can also cause swelling. The moment you scrub your skin, the exfoliating substances hurt your skin and damage the lipid boundary. Your skin begins to expand and looks ruddy. In any case, the problem is much deeper than it appears from an external point of view. The moment the outer layer of your skin is compromised, it becomes powerless against external dangers like poisons, allergens, etc.

Acne

Exfoliation can also cause skin inflammation. Right from the start, unnecessary exfoliation lights up the surface of your skin. Gradually, the irritation turns into a flare-up of skin inflammation. In that sense, assuming your skin shows signs of skin breaking out after exfoliation, it demonstrates that you’re not doing everything as well as possible. You might feel uncomfortable with the inflexible nature of your skin.

How to exfoliate your skin the right way

If your exfoliation leads to any of the things mentioned above, you are excessively exfoliating your skin. Follow the step we mentioned below to exfoliate your skin the right way.

Be nice

Whether or not you have thicker skin, don’t rub or tug on it when using an exfoliator. All things being equal, use small, devious strokes to simultaneously press the item onto the face and away from the surface of the skin. The goal is to remove dead skin cells and extra everyday dirt that sits on your face and gets deep into your pores. The main thing to remember is that it can in any case be achieved with delicate exfoliation.

Not exfoliating twice a day

You might think that the more the better in case you haven’t lost in a while, but there’s a compelling reason to do it at least a few times a day. Stick to a schedule based on your skin type. For example, if you have smooth skin, every other day may be essential. Again, assuming you have dry skin, you can just peel your skin more than once a week.

If you have acne or acne marks, stop exfoliating your skin. Exfoliation during the rash can cause more damage to your skin.

Use the instruments you have

A washcloth or bristle brush are the main things you really want for mechanical exfoliation. These devices can be used alone or in combination with a peeling cleaning agent. When picking exfoliating substances, the cycle depends on synthetic and catalytic fixings to complete the job.
