WWE Superstar and Mountain Man Karrion Kross is a former two-time NXT Champion who, along with his wife Scarlett, is just beginning on the path to destruction on the company’s main roster. At 6’4” and weighing 265lbs, the New York native sat down with M&F to talk life on the road as a couple, making an impact in the UK, and of course: the great WWE Monday night raw 30th anniversary To display.
Karrion Kross is an integral part of WWE Monday Night Raw Trivia
Most mat fans will recall that after a killer run in NXT, Karrion Kross got off to a shaky start on the WWE main roster last year, when he lost in his debut match to the legendary Jeff Hardy. But fewer people will know that in a great anecdote based on Monday Night Raw, this wasn’t his first appearance on the long-running show.
In fact, as Kevin Kross, he had teamed up with Darren Young to take on The Ascension in a 2015 contest in less than two minutes, but having cultivated his craft in the rings of Lucha Underground, Impact Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling ever since, the well-traveled wrestler has fond memories of that day.
“At the time, I was approached to do background (extra) work for WWE,” Kross explains. “I was just backstage and I remember Fit Finlay, and William Regal coming up to me, and they were like, ‘Hey, we know your stuff, and we’ve got a really simple place tonight.’ I said absolutely When you’re lucky enough to be sure Monday night raw for anything, especially when you’re not [signed] with the company, you jump at those opportunities.
WWE viewers eventually got to know Kross better as a two-time NXT champion, so they were disappointed that when he returned to Raw in 2022, Kross found himself the loser of another short contest, this time against the legendary Jeff Hardy. Yet despite his dark on-screen persona, he’s able to put that down to experience and use it to fuel his future success.
“Despite how people felt about it, for me it was actually a good day,” Kross shares. “I went there, it was my birthday, July 19, and I was given a brand new contract. I got a huge raise, and it was really cool to be in a locker room with people I’ve been watching for so many years, people with so much equity in the business. They’re my friends to this day. So on a personal note, away from the professional side, it was a really good day.
Karrion Kross is back with a goal
While Kross disappeared from WWE TV screens in 2021, he made a statement by returning to the “Clash of the Castle” live event in Cardiff, Wales in August 2022, in front of more than 60 000 fans. There he took a ringside seat with his wife Scarlett to do battle with Britain’s own Drew McIntyre. It was a night he will never forget. “I know we’re talking about me here, but I have to say, never in my life have I ever seen anyone get a crowd reaction like Drew McIntyre,” Kross said. And, after getting a glimpse of WWE’s top echelon, this warrior understands that success in the larger-than-life world of sports-entertainment is as much about building a character as it is executing the moves in the ring.
“I like to think of Karrion Kross, not really as a human being,” he says. “I like to think of it as a very dark energy in the room. “Like, when you walk into a place you know you shouldn’t be, late at night, like a haunted house or something. You know you shouldn’t be there, but you feel you should stay because you’re about to see something you won’t be able to see anywhere else! He is the dark energy in the room, manifesting as a person.
Karrion Kross appreciates qualified advice
In order to keep the distance and forge an established run with WWE, Kross also understands that listening to some of the legends who have graced Monday Night Raw for the past 30 years is a gift that cannot be bought. “Triple H always gives me great advice,” the big man shares. “Shawn Michaels and the guys currently on the roster. I really like probing Paul Heyman’s brain. Kross says “tribal leader” Roman Reigns has always been there to cheer him on, and he’s also grateful to Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg. “He’s a very tough guy, likes to crush people and he’s very good at it,” Kross said. But he’s also very self-aware, and he’s actually incredibly helpful in getting information, ideas, advice, etc.
Karrion Cross navigates WWE with his life partner
Of course, Kross isn’t alone on his journey to WWE stardom. He’s joined in the ring by his real wife, Scarlett, and this duo really brings out the best in each other. “We hold each other accountable in all aspects of life,” says the proud husband. “Sometimes she has to tell me to slow down. Sometimes she says “hey, you’re overdoing it and you need to rest”, and vice versa as well. We invest very heavily in everything we do because we generally engage in things we love. This strong relationship was never more evident than in a recent episode of YouTube’s “Celtic Warrior Workouts,” where the duo took Sheamus through an intense workout.
Still, there is one area where married wrestlers have debates, and that concerns foraging on the road. “So it’s always been a bit difficult,” laughs Kross. “Scarlett is gluten-free, but the one page we’re still on is that we like to stick to whole foods that are organic, and stuff like that.” Luckily, they both love their meat and make it a staple of almost every meal.
With Killer Kross currently making waves on WWE Friday Night SmackDown, and making an enemy of Rey Mysterio in the process, he’s unlikely to appear alongside The Undertaker and Ric Flair on Monday Night Raw’s 30th anniversary show, live on the USA Network. . But, again, as they say in WWE: anything can happen. “I could show up anywhere, anytime, anytime, as usual,” Kross says.
