How to shave a hair salon at home

Shave at the hairdresser at home, so you walk into your hair salon and are treated to a haircut and style that makes you feel refreshed and look younger. That relaxing straight razor shave with a hot towel, the details of the executive’s hand, the warm conversation and care you receive from your barber can be a real treat. Behind those espressos you’re sipping at the barbershop against the backdrop of buzzing conversation and clippers, there’s a lot you need to know before you bring your barbershop shave and the whole experience home.

How to get a shave at a hairdresser in the comfort of your home

Your hairdresser is a bit like the friends with whom you shoot the breeze, talk about sports and news. If he tells you to grow some more handlebars or get rid of that mustache, then he should be the best person to tell you how to achieve the hair salon experience at home. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice on how to keep the look at home or what products you should use.

Time saving

If you decide not to go to the hairdresser and move your routine to your house, it means that you will miss the experience and expertise of your hairdresser. However, there can be many benefits to moving your grooming routine home, such as saving time, not having to wait to go to the hairdresser, and of course more money in your pocket.

Equip yourself

To get started, you’ll need to get your gear like clippers, scissors, straight razors, tweezers, towels, and shaving products. Do your research before you go out and buy your gear so you don’t get stuck with a bunch of things that don’t work. Read product reviews, look for samples, and test them in-store if possible.

Try a straight razor

How to use a straight razor

If you want to try your skills at home with barbershop shaving using a straight razor, you’ll need to start with plenty of hot towels to press down on your face. It’s a classic ritual that opens pores and softens your beard.

Use essential oils

Then you go apply essential oil. The hot towel and oil will make your skin more relaxing. Most essential oils come in a few common scents: eucalyptus, lavender, or sandalwood, the scents actually work to help you relax and relieve stress. If fancy oil is out of your budget, you can improvise with homemade shaving oil to save a few bucks. Simply apply oil to your entire beard area, then apply a warm towel. Be careful to make sure the towel smokes but doesn’t burn.

Hold the hot towel for a few seconds while your whiskers soften. Once the towel begins to cool, gently rub the whiskers in the opposite direction of their growth. This lifts the hairs away from the skin to ensure a close shave. Once the towel is no longer hot, peel it off the skin, apply your cream and gently run the straight razor over the grain. Your favorite aftershave seals the deal and the day starts on a high note and flows by with the confidence of an amazing barbershop shave at home!
