There are a lot of questions to ask ahead of the 2022 Mr. Olympia. One of them is where 2021 Olympia 212 winner Derek Lunsford will rank… in the Men’s Open. Lunsford is now competing with the big boys, and he hopes to be up as the 17e Mr. Olympia at the end of the night of December 17e. Lunsford shared her excitement about competing with Isabelle Turell on the Fit Rockstar Show this year. He’s also well aware that he’ll have to face a long line of other contenders and even two former champions – Brandon Curry and Mr. Olympia defender Big Ramy.
“I know we’re all going there to fight for that title, and everybody wants to make history,” Lunsford said. He is all the more excited as it also serves as an opportunity for him to show his full potential.
“I think being in 212 was holding me back, and now that I’m able to reach my full potential, we’re going to see a very amazing year. I work my cock to do it.
Lunsford has made it clear that he has made the most of the past year, and this new opportunity has fueled his passion for competition like never before. He even compared it to when he started his bodybuilding career as an amateur.
“I have this fire inside of me this year,” he said emphatically. “It was the best preparation I’ve ever had.”
Turell pointed out that Lunsford could go down in history on two fronts. He could be the first man to win the Olympia in two divisions, and he would be the youngest Mr. Olympia winner since Lee Haney. When reminded of these facts, Lunsford smiled and pledged to do whatever he can to rewrite the history books.
“I’m going to do my best,” he told Turell. Everyone there is amazing, and they want their shot at that title, and I think I’m one of those guys who can challenge anyone.
